What is Ground Testing?
Confirming the accurate completion of the selection and installation procedure for screws is a much needed step known as ground testing. It ensures that every aspect aligns precisely with manufacturer specifications and as a result of this provides peace of mind for clients.

Why is Ground Testing Important?
Across various sectors in the UK, ground anchors play a crucial role in ensuring structural stability and preventing serious consequences such as injury, loss of life, or property damage. Proper selection, design, and installation are essential to maintaining safety and reliability.
Our expert teams operate nationwide, delivering comprehensive site surveys and load testing to provide accurate data for selecting the right ground screws for your project.
We conduct surveys and load tests across multiple locations, supporting everything from large-scale buildings to multi-unit developments. Our testing capabilities include:
• Tensile testing up to 120kN per ground screw
• Compression testing up to 150kN per ground screw
All our ground screw foundation testing adheres to industry-leading standards:
• ICE Specification for Piling and Embedded Retaining Walls (3rd Edition)
• ISO/CD 22477-6 – Load Testing of Soil Nails and Rock Bolts
• BS EN 1993-5:2007 Eurocode 3 – Design of Steel Structures, Part 5: Piling

How Does the Ground testing process work?

Proof Testing
In order to ensure proper installation and the achievement of a safe working load (SWL), proof testing is carried out. This strict examination provides the necessary confirmation that the ground screw has been correctly installed.

Preliminary Testing
During the design stages of most projects, preliminary testing assumes a significant role. With a focus on the integrity of the surface , we can address any concerns promptly. By expertly installing selected ground screws and doing tensile and compression testing, we gather data regarding their performance. Another key point to mention is that our team at STS records all visual and acoustic aspects during these tests. As a result of this, producing full reports that inform decision-making processes.

Ultimate Load Testing
To determine the ground screw’s maximum load capacity in a chosen surface , we utilise ultimate load testing. This strict method requires applying the ground screws to tensile and compression testing until failure, therefore allowing for precise findings. By simulating real-world scenarios, we acquire the essential data required to make confident decisions. At the same time offers an extra factor of safety.
